Village Talk - December 2015

Check your alarm systems
With the festive season approaching it is important to ensure that your alarm system is fully functional. Many people leave this to the last minute before they go away and it puts our KSS technical teams under immense pressure. Please do not hesitate to contact KSS should you need a service done or upgrades to be made. You can contact Keshen on 0833935265 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. Lock-up and Go
The last thing you want is a positive break-in while you are away on holiday. Here are a few things you can do before leaving for the holidays.

1. Alert your alarm company
Just switching on your alarm and jumping into your car is not sufficient. First ensure that your alarm is working, and then let your alarm company know that you will be away.
2. Proactive activity
Try to ensure that there is some activity in and around your home. Whether you have a friend or family member making regular pop-by visits to feed your pet or have someone staying the night. The little bit of activity will keep criminals at bay. You can also have a light, TV or radio on a timer to go on and off periodically during the night – giving the impression that there is someone home.

3. Social media
Don’t advertise your travel plans on any social media; rather share your details and upload photo’s when you get back.

4. A presence
Arrange for someone to be around if you have a garden or pool service coming by.

5. Hold your post/mail
One of the most noticeable signs that there is no one at home is a pile of post and newspapers. Consider hiring a post box, and tell the media company to put a hold on your daily paper. Failing that, get someone to collect your post and newspaper on a daily basis.

6. Lighting and fencing
Ensure that outside lights are also on a day-light timer and that the foliage is cleared along your fence line.
Gun Safes – HIGH ALERT
There has been a spate of house breakings where gun safes have been targeted. HOW SERIOUS ARE YOU about making sure that your gun safe is secure enough? If you are serious, then here is some advice:
1. The safe should be epoxied to the walls.
2. Then bolted to the walls and floor.
3. It should be rawl bolted and epoxied to at least TWO walls and the floor.
4. Further to that, it is highly recommended that the safe then be concreted in.
5. Is your safe robust enough to with stand a crowbar forcing the door open? If not then you need to reconsider getting a more robust safe if you are going to go to the measures that I have outlined above.
6. Monitoring of the safe can be incorporated into an existing alarm system or be monitored independently if needed.

If you need any further advice please contact the KSS offices on 033 3305911 and request that Gary make an appointment to see you.
