Village Talk - 12 October 2016
Please remember to remain vigilant at all times. Whether you live in a free standing residence or in a fenced / gated community estate, you need to be aware of your personal security. Security starts at home, with you! Take ownership, be aware and report anything suspicious to your security service provider.
This past month has seen more suspects apprehended and stolen items recovered. There has, however, been a spike in break-ins, especially at small businesses. Another concern is the number of incidents that have occurred while residents are at home - fortunately no one was injured in any of these incidents.
Residential estates and complexes are not immune to break-ins. There is no perimeter fence line that is not impenetrable and people still need to make sure they are aware and alert. Ensure that you have emergency contact numbers on hand (loaded onto your cell phone on speed dial mode).
Please also be aware of scams and con artists. Be wary of letting people into your homes / estates / complexes that you don’t know, especially if they claim to be selling a product. Rather tell them you are not interested. In this day and age you need to be wary of sales pitches that sound “too good to be true” from people you don’t know.
In the early hours of Saturday 8 October there was another business robbery in the Howick CBD. KSS responded within 2 minutes. There were 7 shots fired at one of the KSS vehicles and Response Officer by the armed criminals. Two bullets hit the KSS vehicles and fortunately no one was harmed. The criminals fled in a white BMW and there was also a second vehicle, a white VW Polo involved in the incident.
House and business alarms
PLEASE set and use your alarm systems when you are not at home or work. It is your responsibility to ensure that you safeguard your possessions and premises with armed alarms. There are too many break-ins where people have neglected to activate their alarms.
Theft of vehicles
Please note that there was a spike in vehicle theft and attempted vehicle theft in the Howick area. Please be vigilant and make sure you lock your vehicles. Try and install a vehicle tracking system or a cheaper option is to get a gear lock or steering lock mechanism.
Congratulations to Hurst Projects for reviving the old Celtiskloof Nursery into a new home and garden lifestyle centre called “The Courtyard”. The opening this past weekend was a huge success. KSS has a working display feature in the showroom, where clients and prospective clients can go and view some of the products KSS are able to offer.
