Crime Report 15 - 22 April 2015

Hi, all

This week has been a busy but great one. Sonya, Jimmy and Sean have started phase 1 of putting up the new Community Bobbies Patrol Boards in the Greendale Park and Eridene areas. This process will be done in three phases, based on budgeting.

Please be patient if your sign has not been put up yet. The signs are newly branded, very distinguishable, (predominantly red) and we are so proud to have started this community not-for-profit initiative with all of your support in the community.

Bobbies Merrivale / Merrivale Heights

All residents in Merrivale and Merrivale Heights interested in setting up the committee to steer the Community Bobbies Patrol Project in the area are to please email Sonya and we will set up a meeting in the next fortnight to formulate the plan moving forward. A lot of interest has been expressed and we have a really brilliant, novel proposal for the community.

Gear lock keys

A set of gear lock keys was found in York road earlier this week. Please collect from the KSS offices if they are yours.

Loadshedding app

There are numerous apps for smartphones that can keep you abreast of load shedding schedules. The one I have down loaded is called “Grid Watch”, but there others out there.

SA CAN My911 – Domestic free “please call me”

Thank you to SA CAN for assisting this KSS client. Remember, this is a free service for any community member to pass on to their domestic workers.

“I received a call from SA CAN and was told that our domestics are covered to and from work and even at their homes – if they have a problem, they should dial the “please call me” number, which I have given to my staff. Thank you for your help”.

The free number is 083 799 1916, simply instruct your staff to use this in case of any emergency and the Duty Manager will make contact with them.

Farm burglary in the Karkloof

A fuel injector pump form a tractor was stolen on Friday 17 April. The thieves knew what they were doing as they carefully removed the pump and had the correct tools with then to do so. There have also been reported cases of scrap metal being stolen in the area.

Crime Report 8 - 14 April 2015

Hi all

Thank you for the on-going support and input. We are hugely appreciative.

Vehicle used in attempted theft
A white bakkie, long wheel base (old Toyota or Mazda) with registration number NP191436 was involved in an attempted break-in in Merrivale industrial area (Laurel Road). They attempted to pull the gate down by tying rope around it and onto the back of the vehicle and then driving off so as to pull the gate out of its brackets. These men were disturbed and fled the scene. This vehicle has also been seen parked in the Merrivale Spar parking lot. Report immediately if you see it.

Load shedding
KSS have had numerous queries/complaints about the number of sms’s being sent to clients regarding “mains failure”, “low batteries”, “fail to test” and “power restorals” during load shedding. KSS is one of the few security companies that affords their clients this sms facility to inform them of power issues as well as alarm activations. The impact of these sms’s is that KSS is sending out about 4000 messages each time load shedding occurs.

Herewith is what we are doing about this:
1. No more sms’s regarding “mains failures” BUT the control centre will STILL receive this signal and will monitor it.
2. No more sms’s regarding “low batteries” BUT the control centre will STILL receive this signal and will monitor it.
3. No more sms’s regarding “failure to test” BUT the control centre will STILL receive this signal and will monitor it.
4. No more sms’s regarding “power restorals” BUT the control centre will STILL receive this signal and will monitor it.

You will still receive sms’s regarding alarm activations and all procedures in the control centre will remain as stringent as they always have been.

This will be until further notification (when load shedding is not a weekly or common occurrence).

Thank you for your understanding.

Note: you can check on loadshedding schedules on www.eskom.co.za
