KSS Incident Report 1 - 12 July 2020

Dear KSS Clients

Thank you for the overwhelming response to our last KSS Newsletter about the Newsletter format. Here is the long and the short of it: There were over 65 responses and 87% would like to see the longer, more detailed Newsletter. We are happy to comply and have reverted back to this more detailed format.

We are also hugely appreciative of your feedback and the kind, complimentary words for the work we do in our community.

Incident summary (crime and other)
There were 5 incidents in Merrivale and Merrivale rural. There were 4 incidents in Howick. There were 2 incidents in Hilton. There was 1 incident in Howick West. There was 1 incident in Tweedie.

KSS Incident report 1 – 12 July 2020
1 July 2020 01:53 D534 (Hilton) The KSS Control Room received an alarm activation A KSS Response unit was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that there had been a break-in. The back door had been forced open. Nothing was stolen. The incident was formally reported to SAPS. A case was opened.

2 July 2020 09:23 Prospect Place (Howick West) The KSS Control Room were advised about a break-in. A KSS Response unit was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that suspects had cut the fence. An on-site security officer reported that the suspects fled the scene. Nothing was stolen.

3 July 2020 06:49 Ogilvie Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room were advised about a positive break-in. A KSS Response unit was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a window had been forced open. A laptop was stolen. The incident was formally reported to SAPS. A case was opened.

3 July 2020 23:00 Miller Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room were advised that there had been intruders on the property. No assistance was requested.

4 July 2020 09:43 Philpot Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room were advised about a positive break-in. A KSS Response unit was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a gas bottle had been stolen. The gas bottle was recovered nearby. The incident was formally reported to SAPS. A case was opened.

4 July 2020 19.23 Old Main Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room were advised about a positive break-in to a non-linked client who called and requested assistance, as his security company had not responded to his alarm. An available KSS Response unit was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the man and his friend were held up at gun-point and locked in a toilet. Cell phones and money were stolen. No one was hurt. The incident was formally reported to SAPS. A case was opened.

4 July 2020 20:45 Berea Rod (Howick) The KSS Control Room were advised about intruders. A KSS Response unit was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that intruders had tried to steal items off the veranda. The client scared the intruders off. Nothing was stolen.

6 July 2020 21:07 Keans Drive (Hilton) The KSS Control Room received an alarm activation. KSS Response units were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that suspects on site had broken the glass door. Laptops and electronic items were stolen. The incident was formally reported to SAPS. A case was opened.

8 July 2020 03:22 D292 (Merrivale rural) The KSS Control Room were advised about a break-in. A KSS Response unit was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the fence had been cut. The client was unsure if any livestock had been stolen but would do a headcount in the morning. The incident was formally reported to SAPS.

8 July 2020 16:45 Zeederberg Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room received a panic activation. A KSS Response unit was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that two shoplifters had been apprehended. The incident was formally reported to SAPS. A case was opened. The suspects were handed over to SAPS.

10 July 2020 03:38 Sunningdale Avenue (Howick) The KSS Control Room received an alarm activation. A KSS Response unit was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that there was an intruder (wielding a knife) on site who had fled in to neighbouring properties. KSS Response unit patrolled the area and found that copper pipes had been stolen from another, empty neighbouring house. The incident was formally reported to SAPS.

11 July 2020 R103 (Tweedie) The KSS Control Room were advised about a fire on site. A KSS Response unit and the Fire Department were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the fire had been contained.

12 July 2020 D292 (Merrivale Rural) The KSS Control Room received an alarm activation. A KSS Response unit was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that intruders had forced the veranda door open. Nothing was stolen.

UCSI update
KSS continues to support local community crime fighting initiatives like the uMngeni Community Safety Initiative (UCSI). KSS, along with other affiliated security companies (Ballid and PMB Security), along with local SAPS have facilitated the detainment of 3 vehicles and 5 criminals that have entered our Hilton, Merrivale, Howick West, Howick and surrounding communities in July 2020 so far. Great work team!
