KSS Sponsored Community CCTV Safety Project
On Friday 2 October 2020 the KSS Control Room were alerted to movement detection on one of the KSS Community CCTV cameras in the Howick area. KSS Controllers identified a suspect walking on the road and three KSS Response units were dispatched. KSS Officers were assisted by SSS in apprehending the suspect who was handed over to SAPS for further processing.
KSS Joint Operations with SAPS
KSS and other security companies assisted local Howick and Hilton SAPS with various successful Joint Operations over the past months. On 18 and 25 September 2020 and then again on 2 and 9 October 2020, KSS supported Howick SAPS in these Joint Operations. Numerous arrests have been made and a number of illegal goods, drugs, alcohol and stolen items have been seized.
In the past 10 days over 60 cases of illegal alcohol, many various drugs, stolen cell phones, laptops, mountain bikes and a generator have been successfully seized through these Joint Operations.

There were 5 incidents in Howick. There were 2 incidents in Howick West. There was 1 incident in Hilton. There was 1 incident in Merrivale.
KSS Incidents 30 September – 10 October 2020
30 September 2020 19:26 Main Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a panic activation. A KSS Response unit was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a suspect had been apprehended for shop lifting.
30 September 2020 20:18 Market Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room were advised that a vehicle had been stolen. A KSS Response unit and SAPS were dispatched. The UCSI were advised. A case was opened.
2 October 2020 07:00 Old Howick Road (Hilton) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client advising that her neighbour (non-KSS) had been broken into. KSS Response units were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that there appeared to be no forced entry. Items were stolen from a vehicle and numerous other items from the house. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.
2 October 2020 14:30 Flanders Crescent (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client advising that her neighbour had been broken into. KSS Response units were dispatched. KSS Officers reported that the back door to the vacant house had been broken. The suspects tried to steal the geyser but were disturbed and fled. SAPS were formally advised.
3 October 2020 07:26 Protea Road (Howick West) The KSS Control Room were advised about a break-in. A KSS Response unit and SAPS were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that suspects had gained entry through a window. Items were stolen. KSS handed over the incident to SAPS.
4 October 2020 16:40 Valleyview Road (Howick West) The KSS Control Room received a panic activation. KSS Response units were dispatched. The client advised that bicycles had been stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case opened.
6 October 2020 9:01 Symmonds Lane (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from the client advising that copper pipes had been stolen. A KSS Response unit was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that access was gained by climbing over the palisade fence. With no external beams on site there was no early warning that suspects had gained entry. SAPS were formally advised.
7 October 2020 20:08 Bevdon Place (Howick) The KSS Control Room were alerted to a man running down the road towards the river. KSS Response units were dispatched and patrolled the area. KSS Officers reported that they could not located the man but would continue patrolling the area.
9 October 2020 19:30 Main Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room were advised about a shooting incident. KSS Response units and SAPS were dispatched. KSS Officers reported that a vehicle fled the scene. KSS Operations Management and the UCSI assisted SAPS with a further investigation into the incident. The vehicle and suspect were identified. No one was injured. KSS handed the incident over to SAPS for further investigation and processing.
