Joint Operations
On Friday the 4th December Howick SAPS held a joint operation with the aim of combating drunken driving. Pietermaritzburg RTI, Knight Security Solutions and Magma assisted Howick SAPS with this operation. There were two road blocks set up one in Howick CBD and Howick West. There were approximately 20 arrests made and 2 vehicles were impounded.
On Friday the 11th December Howick SAPS held another joint operation with the aim of combating crime. Knight Security Solutions assisted Howick SAPS with this operation. Two shebeens were raided in the local community. Illegal alcohol was confiscated and two arrests were made.
Current theft trend
Please be aware of vehicles left outside in unprotected or unalarmed areas. Vehicle break-ins and theft of vehicle batteries has increased.

There were 5 incidents in Howick. There were 4 incidents in Merrivale. There was 1 incident in Mpophomeni. There was 1 incident in Tweedie. There was 1 incident in the Karkloof.
KSS Incidents 1- 14 December 2020
1 December 2020 12:25 Main Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from an on-site KSS Security Guard requesting assistance. A KSS Response unit was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a shoplifter had been apprehended. SAPS were formally advised. KSS handed the perpetrator over to SAPS. A case was opened.
3 December 2020 10:00 D292 (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room received a call from a member of the public advising about a positive break-in. A KSS Response unit was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that suspects had stolen a brush cutter and shoes. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.
4 December 2020 01:15 Rooken Ridge (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room received a call from Amlec Security advising about a positive break-in. A KSS Response unit was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the front door had been forced open. Items were stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.
6 December 2020 08:20 Old Main Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client requesting assistance. KSS Response units were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that vehicle batteries had been stolen. Access was gained through the fence. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.
7 December 2020 07:38 Exchange Lane (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client requesting assistance. KSS Response units were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that vehicle batteries had been stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.
7 December 2020 08:53 Geekie Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client requesting assistance. KSS Response units were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that change rooms and shed had been broken into. Access was gained by jumping over a gate. As per the client no need for SAPS.
7 December 2020 15:36 Zeederberg Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room were advised about a break-in. A KSS Response unit was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that items had been stolen. Access was gained through the fence. As per the client no need for SAPS.
8 December 2020 06:13 Exchange Lane (Howick) The KSS Control Room received an alarm activation. A KSS Response unit was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that vehicles had been broken into. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.
9 December 2020 20:50 Boston Bulwer Road (Mpophomeni) The KSS Control Room received an alarm activation. KSS Response units were dispatched. An on-site KSS Security Guard and KSS Officers checked on the activation area and reported that suspects were on site, but fled. The KSS Officers recovered diesel filled drums. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.
9 November 2020 03:39 Tweedie Road (Tweedie) The KSS Control Room were advised about a positive break-in to an unmonitored residence. A KSS Response unit was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a back gate had been found open, but there were no signs of forced entry. Electronic items and a mountain bike were stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.
14 December 2020 01:00 Somme Street (Howick) While on patrol, an alert KSS Response Officer noticed a suspect trying to break a gate off its hinges. The resident was a non-KSS client but KSS Controllers managed to contact them and advise accordingly. The suspect was disturbed and fled. Nothing was stolen. As per the resident no need for SAPS. KSS did however, place a Security Guard on site as per the resident’s request.
14 December 2020 06:20 Karkloof Road (Karkloof) The KSS Control Room was advised about a positive break-in. A KSS Response unit was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a glass door had been broken. As per the client, nothing appeared to be stolen and no need for SAPS.
