Incident summary (crime and other)
There were 6 incidents in Howick. There were 3 incidents in Merrivale. There were 2 incidents in Hilton. There was 1 incident in Howick West.

KSS Incidents 1 – 14 March 2021
1 March 2021 08:30 Oleander Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room were advised by the resident that there had been a break-in. KSS Operations staff met with the resident to discuss further security measures. As per the resident no need for SAPS.

4 March 2021 11:38 Tweedie Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room were advised about a break-in. A KSS Response team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that an item had been stolen. SAPS were formally advised. The stolen item was recovered.

4 March 2021 18:27 Rosebank Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client advising that a young boy was asking for help as he did not want to return home. A KSS Response team was dispatched. The KSS Officers requested the assistance of SAPS and that matter was dealt with accordingly.

4 March 2021 18:30 Main Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room were advised that electrical cables had been stolen. A KSS Response team was dispatched. The KSS Officers confirmed that the cables had been stolen from near the entrance gate. As per the client no need for SAPS.

5 March 2021 R617 (Merrivale) A patrolling KSS Response vehicle was stopped and advised that scrap metal was being sold illegally. The suspect was apprehended. SAPS were formally advised and the suspect was handed over to SAPS. A case was opened.

5 March 2021 17:13 Karkloof Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a panic activation. A KSS Response team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a suspect had been apprehended for trespassing. SAPS were formally advised and the suspect was handed over to SAPS. A case was opened.

6 March 2021 07:20 Wear Avenue (Howick) The KSS Control Room were advised that a fence had been cut. As per the client no need for SAPS or Armed Response.

7 March 2021 21:00 Valley view Road (Howick West) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client advising that clothing had been stolen from the washing line. A KSS Response team was dispatched. The suspects were identified and later apprehended. SAPS were formally advised and the suspects handed over to SAPS. A case was opened.

8 March 2021 10:47 Valley Road (Hilton) The KSS Control Room received notification about a break-in. A KSS Response team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that access was gained through a palisade fence and the suspects had entered the house and tied up two domestic assistants on site. The neighbour heard the screams for help. Some items were stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

10 March 2021 02:00 Rooken Ridge (Merrivale) A patrolling KSS Response vehicle noticed suspects fleeing the premises. The KSS Control Room advised the client who met the KSS Response team on site. Items were stolen. As per the client no need for SAPS.

12 March 2021 15:01 Mare Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from the client advising that there was a break-in in progress. KSS Response teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the suspects had fled when they realised that they had been spotted by a person on-site who called for assistance. Noting was stolen. As per the client no need for SAPS.

13 March 2021 04:40 Cowan Road (Hilton) The KSS Control Room were advised about an incident. A KSS Response team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that suspects had derailed a gate and stolen a vehicle. SAPS and the UCSI were advised. A case was opened. The vehicle was recovered in Pietermaritzburg.
