ATM theft has increased recently
Users of bank cards are advised as follows:
• Keep your bank card in sight at ALL times.
• Observe around you – if you feel uneasy then don’t proceed with the transaction.
• Keep your "pin-entry process" a secret.
• Don’t allow yourself to be distracted.
• Don’t allow anyone to assist you.
• Ensure all transactions are "sms-linked" so you get notification of transactions.
• Cancel your card immediately with your bank should your card be skimmed, stolen or money withdrawn without your approval.
TOP TIPS for staying safe in general
• Always set your alarm when you go out.
• Be observant and report anything suspicious.
• Keep personal possessions out of sight.
• Keep emergency numbers handy or on speed dial.
• Know your neighbours.

There were 5 incidents in Merrivale. There were 4 incidents in Howick. There were 2 incidents in Mpophomeni. There was 1 incident in Howick West. There was 1 incident in Birnamwood.
KSS Incidents 11 – 23 May 2021
14 May 2021 09:58 R617 Boston Bulwer Road (Mpophomeni) The KSS Control Room received a panic activation from an on-site Security Guard. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that diesel had been stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.
15 May 2021 09:48 Zeederberg Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room were advised that someone had been robbed at an ATM. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that 2 males had offered to assist a women with withdrawing money and then made off with the cash. SAPS and the bank were advised.
15 May 2021 19:11 Ridge Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a panic activation. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that there was a suspect in the yard who had stolen a light. As per the client no need for SAPS.
16 May 2021 08:28 Midmar Road (Howick West) The KSS Control Room were advised that 2 suspects had been apprehended cutting a fence. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the suspects were handed over to SAPS.
16 May 2021 09:26 Main Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client advising that he had seen a suspect pulling an air conditioning unit off a wall. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the suspect had fled. SAPS were formally advised.
17 May 2021 16:25 (Mpophomeni) The KSS Control Room received a call from Midlands EMS who advised that a young boy had been involved in a hit and run in Mpophomeni. The vehicle was identified on the UCSI cameras and a KSS Response Team managed to locate the vehicle. The driver abandoned his vehicle and was picked up and driven away in another vehicle. Two KSS Response units chased the second vehicle and managed to pull it over. Mpophomeni SAPS and the Umgeni Traffic Department arrested the suspect.
18 May 2021 02:07 Birnamwood Road (Birnamwood) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client advising that he had had an attempted break-in. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a door had been damaged and footprints were visible. Nothing was stolen. As per the client no need for SAPS.
19 May 2021 07:15 Saligna Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room were advised about a positive break-in. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that access was gained by forcing open an aluminium window. Items were stolen. KSS handed the incident over to SAPS. A case was opened.
21 May 2021 16:01 Zeederberg Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room received a panic activation. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that there were ATM scammers on site. The suspects fled. The suspects’ vehicle details were loaded onto the UCSI SNIPR system. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.
22 May 2021 09:10 Laurel Crescent (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room received an alarm activation. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the fence had been tempered with. Nothing was stolen. As per the client no need for SAPS.
22 May 2021 13:37 Harvard Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room were contacted by a client to advise that the shop next door had been held up by armed suspects. KSS Response Teams, Hilton Rapid Response and Howick SAPS were dispatched. Cash and cell phones were stolen. SAPS took over from KSS. A case was opened. The UCSI were advised.
23 May 2021 11:22 Baron Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room received a panic activation. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that there had been a suspect on site which they had managed to apprehend. Nothing was stolen. As per the client no need for SAPS.
23 May 2021 11:48 Braemar Crescent (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client requesting assistance. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers confirmed that the gate motor had been stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.
