KSS Incident Report 24 - 31 August 2021

Dear KSS Clients

The items that are being targeted at the moment include: Copper pipes, cables, electronic items (TV, laptops, PlayStations), vehicle batteries and gas bottles. Please be extra vigilant.

Incident Summary (crime and other)

There were 7 incidents in Merrivale. There were 3 incidents in Howick. There were 2 incidents in Kwa Mevana. There was 1 incident in Merrivale Rural. There was 1 incident in Merrivale Heights. There was 1 incident in Howick West.

KSS Incidents 23 – 31 August 2021

23 August 2021 13:00 Saligna Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room were advised about a break-in. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that gutters and electrical cables had been stolen. The suspects gained access under the fence. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

23 August 2021 17:50 D292 (Merrivale Rural) The KSS Control Room were advised about a break-in. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that electronic items had been stolen from the cottage which is not alarmed. Access was gained by removing the burglar guards. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

24 August 2021 08:47 Campbell Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room were advised about a break-in. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a brush cutter and wheelbarrow had been stolen. There were no signs of forced entry. SAPS were formally advised.

24 August 2021 17:10 Geekie Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room received a panic activation. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the burglar guard on the window had been removed and the garage door latch broken. A brush cutter had been stolen. KSS placed a Security Guard on site for the night and conducted additional patrols in the area. As per the client no need for SAPS.

25 August 2021 22:48 Zeederberg Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room were advised about an intruder on the residents property. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the suspect fled and that they had checked the premises and surrounding areas. Later that evening it was reported that a 9kg gas bottle had been stolen and KSS Officers were again dispatched to assist. The resident was appreciative of the assistance from the KSS Response Teams. As per the gentleman no need for SAPS.

26 August 2021 08:15 Rylands Road (Howick) The KSS received a call requesting assistance. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that copper pipes had been stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

26 August 2021 09:05 R617 (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room were advised about a break-in. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that items had been stolen. Access was gained by bending the burglar bars of the window. KSS placed a Security Guard on site. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

26 August 2021 12:00 Carel Orthman Road (Merrivale Heights) The KSS Control Room was contacted by a client requesting assistance for their neighbours. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that copper pipes had been stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

26 August 2021 14:37 Riverview Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a panic activation. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a suspect had stolen cooking oil and fled. KSS patrolled the area. As per the client no need for SAPS.

27 August 2021 06:25 Zeederberg Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room received a CCTV camera activation. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that access was gained through a window. A steel rim was stolen. As per the client no need for SAPS.

28 August 2021 03:24 Hillbrow Road (Howick West) The KSS Control Room received a panic activation. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that two vehicles had been broken into and the batteries stolen. There are no outside beams so no activations were received. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

29 August 2021 05:00 Bensley Road (Kwa Mevana) The KSS Control Room received a call from Howick SAPS requesting assistance. KSS Response units were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that access was gained through an unlocked gate and unlocked lounge door. The resident disturbed the suspects who fled. Nothing was stolen. KSS handed the matter over the SAPS.

30 August 2021 08:18 Oleander Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room were advised about a break-in. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that cable had been stolen. Access was gained by jumping over the wall. As per the client no need for SAPS.

31 August 2021 23:39 Somme Street (Kwa Mevana) The KSS Control Room received an alarm activation. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that access was gained through the palisade fence and that a window had been broken. SAPS were formally advised.

31 August 2021 10:19 Ogilvie Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room were advised about cable theft. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that access was gained by using a stepladder to climb the wall. As per the client no need for SAPS.
