Incident summary (crime and other)
There were 8 incidents in Howick. There were 3 incidents in the Merrivale area. There were 3 incidents in Howick West. There were 2 incidents in Boston. There was 1 incident in Mpophomeni.
KSS Incidents 11 – 21 October 2021
11 October 2021 03:37 Old Main Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room were advised that a vehicle had filled up with fuel and the driven off without paying. A KSS Reaction Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers advised that they had a description of the vehicle. The UCSI and KSS teams were able to identify the vehicle and registration plates. The vehicle was loaded by the UCSI onto the SNIPR network. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.
11 October 2021 12:20 Farm (Boston) The KSS Senior Inspector was advised that there had been a break-in on the neighbouring farm. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that electronic items and power tools had been stolen. The alarm was not set. Access was gained through the fence and then by forcing doors open. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.
12 October 2021 10:14 Celtis Lane (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a panic activation. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a suspect had entered the premises by jumping the fence and accessing the house through an unlocked back door. The suspect threatened the client and stole a cell phone. KSS Officers patrolled the area and located the suspect. The suspect was apprehended. The cell phone was recovered. KSS handed the suspect over to SAPS. A case was opened.
13 October 2021 14:00 Paddock Crescent (Howick) The KSS Control Room were advised about a suspect on site. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. KSS Officers reported that they patrolled the area but to no avail. Access was gained through a window. Items were stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.
14 October 2021 00:56 Umgeni Avenue (Howick) The KSS Control Room received an alarm activation. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that there had been a suspect on the premises but he fled when the alarm activated. Nothing was stolen. As per the client no need for SAPS. KSS conducted additional patrols in the area.
14 October 2021 06:20 Braemar Crescent (Howick) The KSS Control Room were advised that a gas bottle had been stolen. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that access was gained by lifting the fence and crawling under it. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.
14 October 2021 19:16 R617 Boston Bulwer Road (Mpophomeni) The KSS Control Room received a panic activation. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the suspects fled when the alarm activated. Nothing was stolen.
15 October 2021 08:23 Rylands Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room were advised about a break-in. The client advised that the alarm was not on and the backdoor unlocked. The electric fence was also off due to maintenance work. Food items were stolen from the freezer. As per the client no need for SAPS.
15 October 2021 15:04 Ogilvie Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client advising that a vehicle had driven into their wall. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The driver was transported to hospital. The owner of the house and the company the vehicle belongs to resolved the matter amicably. KSS placed a Security Guard on site for the night.
16 October 2021 14:00 Old Main Road (Howick) An observant KSS Response Officer noticed a suspicious vehicle leaving the premises. On further investigation he established that an elderly man had been mugged. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The vehicle had fled the area but a description and details were loaded onto the UCSI SNIPR network.
17 October 2021 08:31 Gush Avenue (Howick) A KSS Response Team was dispatched to check on a main failure at the premises. On arrival they noticed that the gate was half open and the gate motor tampered with. All else was in order. The client was advised accordingly.
17 October 2021 12:21 Neptune Road (Howick West) The KSS Control Room received a panic activation. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a suspicious vehicle with an armed suspect had followed a visitor to the client’s house. When the alarm activated the vehicle and suspect fled. KSS units conducted additional patrols in the area.
18 October 2021 11:31 Azalea Road (Howick West) The KSS Control Room were advised about a fire on their neighbours premises. KSS Response Teams and the Fire Department were dispatched. KSS Officers reported that the fire was brought under control. There were no injuries. KSS handed the scene over to the Fire Department
18 October 2021 19:05 Valley View Road (Howick West) The KSS Control Room were advised about an assault. A KSS Response Team and SAPS were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that they were on scene with other Security Service Providers. The matter was handed over to SAPS when they arrived.
20 October 2021 11:00 D292 (Merrivale Rural) The KSS Control Room were advised that a sign had been stolen. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that they had apprehended the suspect. KSS handed the suspect over to SAPS. A case was opened.
20 October 2021 18:57 Wilson Road (Merrivale Heights) An alert patrolling KSS Response Team advised the KSS Control Room to check the CCTV cameras in the area as a man was being assaulted. SAPS were contacted but were delayed in responding due to other incidents. KSS had 5 Response Teams on site to assist with the incident until SAPS arrived. KSS handed the matter over to SAPS.
20 October 2021 18:30 Impendle Road (Boston) The KSS Team in the area were advised that there was an intruder on the neighbouring property. KSS Response Officers proceeded to the farm and were able to apprehend and question the suspect. The man was homeless and looking for employment. There were no signs of forced entry or damages reported. KSS handed the matter over to SAPS.
21 October 2021 The KSS Control Room were advised by VCAT TrackBox that a white double cab Toyota Hilux had been involved in the theft of cell phone tower batteries. A KSS Response Team located the vehicle, which was followed by KSS and other Security Service Providers from Hilton onto the R617. A second vehicle was also identified. Both vehicles were stopped in Boston by SAPS and Security Service Providers, and searched. No evidence was found. KSS and the UCSI then loaded the vehicles onto the SNIPR network for observation. Later in the day KSS were advised by SAPS that two of the vehicle occupants had outstanding warrants of arrest. At 15:30 the UCSI advised KSS that there had been a camera activation in the area for both vehicles. KSS Response Teams and other Security Service Providers responded and one of the vehicles was stopped on the N3 near Howick. The suspects were apprehended and handed over to SAPS for further processing.
