Incident summary (crime and other)
There were 4 incidents in Merrivale. There were 4 incidents in Howick. There were 3 incidents in the Karkloof. There was 1 incident in Hilton. There was 1 incident in Lions River.
KSS Incidents 21 – 31 December 2021
21 December 2021 18:30 Karkloof Road (Karkloof) The KSS Control Room were advised about a break-in to a non-KSS client. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that access was gained by breaking the back door and garage door. Items were stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.
23 December 2021 02:59 R103 (Lions River) A KSS Security Guard sent a panic activation through to the KSS Control Room and advised he has seen 2 suspects on the site. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the fence had been cut. Nothing was stolen. The client was advised.
25 December 2021 17:22 Main Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room received an alarm activation. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the front door had been forced open. Nothing was stolen. As per the client no need for SAPS.
25 December 2021 18:08 Laurel Crescent (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room received an alarm activation. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that access was gained by cutting the fence and the wendy house windows broken. Nothing was stolen. As per the client no need for SAPS.
25 December 2021 18:37 Laurel Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room advised the KSS Response Teams in the area to check the fences. The KSS Officers reported that the fence had been cut. The client was advised and confirmed that nothing had been stolen. As per the client no need for SAPS.
27 December 2021 11:40 Saligna Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room received a mains failure. KSS Response Teams were dispatched as the client had called in and advised that there was a suspect on site. The KSS Officers reported that they had apprehended the suspect. Access was gained through a hole in the wall covered with a sheet of metal from a previous break-in. As per the client they would handle the matter.
27 December 2021 22:10 Karkloof Road (Karkloof) The KSS Control Room received a call to advised that the CCTV cameras had been tampered with. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the CCTV camera had been pushed downwards and the backdoor forced open. Numerous items were stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened. Later that evening patrolling KSS Officers spotted 2 suspects carrying stolen items. The suspects fled and dropped the items. KSS Officers recovered all the stolen items.
28 December 2021 00:24 Mopani Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client requesting assistance. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that main gate had been left open. The client came to site and confirmed diesel had been stolen. CCTV camera footage was watched and an employee was identified as the suspect. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.
29 December 2021 17:55 Exchange Lane (Howick) The KSS Control Room identified suspects on site from a CCTV camera activation. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a vehicle window had been broken. The suspect fled. Nothing was stolen.
30 December 2021 18:30 Karkloof Road (Karkloof) The KSS Control Room were advised that copper pipes had been stolen from the property. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that access to the premises was easy as it is not fenced. SAPS were formally advised. KSS conducted additional patrols in the area.
31 December 2021 19:00 Riley Crescent (Howick) The KSS Control Room received an alarm activation. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a tree had fallen over in the storm and damaged the perimeter fence. The client was advised accordingly. KSS conducted additional patrols in the area.
31 December 2021 19:30 Main Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room were advised by a KSS Security Guard on site that the guttering had been damaged due to the storm. A KSS Response Teams was dispatched to assess the damage and check the premises. Nothing else was damaged. The client was advised accordingly.
31 December 2021 21:07 Mallory Road (Hilton) The KSS Control Room received an alarm activation. KSS Response Teams, SAPS and Rapid Response were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported a break-in to the wendy house. Access was gained by cutting the fence. A lawnmower was stolen, but was recovered in the neighbouring property. The suspects fled into the nearby forest. The client and SAPS were formally advised. KSS conducted additional patrols in the area.
