There were 6 incidents in Merrivale. There were 5 incidents in Howick. There were 3 incidents in Boston. There were 2 incidents in Howick West. There was 1 incident in Hilton. There was 1 incident in Pietermaritzburg. There was 1 incident in Karkloof. There was 1 incident in Mpophomeni. There was 1 incident in Tweedie.
KSS Incidents 17 March – 8 April 2022
20 March 2022 00:51 Brindy Road (Hilton) The KSS Control Room received an alarm activation. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the kitchen door had been tampered with, but no access was gained. Nothing was stolen. KSS conducted additional patrols.
20 March 2022 18:31 Geekie Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room received a call advising that a female pedestrian had been knocked over by a motor vehicle, which had then fled the scene. KSS Response Teams were dispatched, and St Michaels and Midlands EMS were in attendance. The victim was rushed to hospital for surgery. SAPS were dispatched and a case was opened. KSS Community CCTV cameras were able to identify a number of vehicles that could have been the culprits. Footage was handed over to SAPS for further investigation.
21 March 2022 07:37 Neptune Road (Howick West) The KSS Control Room was advised about an attempted vehicle theft. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that that gate had been derailed and a lock cut. Nothing was stolen. As per the client no need for SAPS.
21 March 2022 15:23 Saligna Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client requesting assistance. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the fence had been cut. No access was gained. Nothing was stolen. As per the client no need for SAPS. KSS Conducted additional patrols in the area.
22 March 2022 09:20 Main Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client requesting assistance. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the fence had been cut. No access was gained. Nothing was stolen. As per the client no need for SAPS. KSS conducted additional patrols in the area.
22 March 2022 14:55 R617 (Boston) The KSS Control Room were advised by a patrolling KSS Response Team, that they had noticed that a fence had been cut. The owner was advised and confirmed that he would investigate it further.
24 March 2022 08:52 Karkloof Road (Karkloof) The KSS Control Room were advised about a positive break-in. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the client was on-site and confirmed that the house key was missing and that there were builders on-site completing renovations. There were no signs of forced entry. Numerous electronic items were stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.
25 March 2022 00:54 Main Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a fence activation. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the fence had been tampered with and cut. The client was advised.
26 March 2022 13:11 R617 (Mpophomeni) The KSS Control Room received a UCSI SNIPR activation about a stolen vehicle. KSS Response Teams and SAPS were dispatched. KSS Officers reported that they had located the vehicle and SAPS escorted the vehicle and suspects to the Police Station for further investigation.
27 March 2022 00:03 R617 (Boston) The KSS Control Room were advised by an on-site Security Guard that there were suspects trying to steel sheep. Shots were fired at the KSS Security Guard when he disturbed them. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the Security Guard had a minor injury and that the suspects had fled when they noticed the KSS vehicle approaching. SAPS were dispatched to assist. KSS Officers recovered 10 sheep that had been removed from the shed.
27 March 2022 15:39 Oakleigh Drive (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client requesting assistance as he heard a door bang at the neighbour’s property. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that there was a suspect on site who fled when he saw the KSS Officers. No access was gained and nothing was stolen.
28 March 2022 09:00 D292 (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client requesting assistance. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that there had been a positive break-in. Access was gained by climbing the wall and then cutting the fence running along the top of the wall. Wiring from trucks was stolen. SAPS were formally advised.
28 March 2022 21:00 Beech Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room were advised that wiring had been stolen from a truck parked on site. CCTV camera footage was checked. As per the client no need for SAPS.
29 March 2022 03:22 Tweedie Road (Tweedie) The KSS Control Room were advised by an on-site patrolling KSS Security Guard that the fence had been damaged. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that they checked the entire perimeter, and the rest of the fence was in order. The client was advised and said he would report further details once he had checked it out.
29 March 2022 12:00 Anderson and Taylor Roads (Merrivale) A proactive, patrolling KSS Response Officer noticed a suspicious man walking down the road carrying a gate. The KSS Officer apprehended the man and was able to ascertain that the gate had been removed from a vacant property. Unfortunately, with no-one residing in the house, a case could not be opened.
29 March 2022 18:40 Bisley (Pietermaritzburg) The KSS Control Room received a CCTV camera activation showing three suspects tampering with a repeater. The KSS Controller dispatched estate security and a local security company to investigate further. It was reported that a lock had been broken and metal sheeting tampered with. Nothing was stolen. A Security Officer was placed on site for the remainder of the night.
1 April 2022 11:21 D292 (Merrivale Rural) The KSS Control Room were advised that a suspect had been apprehended for steeling scrap metal. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a second suspect was then apprehended. The stolen scrap metal was recovered by KSS Officers. SAPS were formally advised.
2 April 2022 13:00 Valley View Road (Howick West) The KSS Control Room were advised by SAPS that they needed assistance. KSS Response Teams were dispatched to assist SAPS search for a discarded firearm. The suspect was apprehended, and the firearm was located. It was then established that it was a toy firearm. SAPS took the suspect to the Police Station for further processing.
3 April 2022 16:50 R617 (Boston) The KSS Control Room were advised that two suspects had been apprehended. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the suspects has been caught steeling corn. SAPS were formally advised. As per the client no need to open a case.
5 April 2022 09:33 Morling and Spark Streets (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a panic activation. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that there had been a break-in. Access was gained through the garage door. Electronic items were stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.
5 April 2022 15:01 Mansfield Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room were advised about an attempted break-in and a description of the vehicle was given. KSS Response Teams were dispatched and KSS checked the vehicle details on the UCSI SNIPR system. It was established that the vehicle had entered the Howick area but had not left. All KSS vehicles were advised and eventually located the vehicle abandoned in KwaHaza. SAPS were formally advised, and it was confirmed that the vehicle had been stolen in 2021. The suspects fled on foot. SAPS impounded the vehicle.
