Reporting crimes to your local SAPS
Please report any crime, no matter how small, to your local SAPS and Security Service Provider.
If you have items stolen it is important that you open a case and get a CAS number. Reporting crime to the South African Police Services is very important and unfortunately many people feel that it often isn’t worth the effort. Yes, it will take up some of your time, but it is also your duty to those around you to do so, because by not reporting your crime you are allowing criminals to continue with their activities.
The local SAPS contact numbers are:
SAPS Howick 033 239 9340
SAPS Mpophomeni 033 238 0078
SAPS Hilton 033 845 6500 / 033 845 6521
Radio Control (Hilton) 10111
There are many local organisations, CPF’s, Security Service Providers, NHW groups and community members trying to make a difference and reduce crime. Please play your part by reporting crimes responsibly and opening cases with SAPS so that all these efforts are not in vain.
You can also contact Knight Security Solutions 24/7 on 033 330 5911 for any advice or guidance.
General Security Advice
1. If you park your car outside your garage, ensure that you have external beams linked to your alarm system to alert you if you have an intruder on your property.
2. Secure any outbuildings, sheds, veranda’s and garages with some sort of external protection. These areas can be linked to your existing house alarm.
3. Trim all excess foliage and clean up your property and verges.
4. Number your property clearly so that emergency services can easily locate your address.
5. Don’t leave items lying around outside in the garden or garage doors open in view of the road. There are opportunistic criminals that quickly jump into and out of yards and steal these smaller items.
6. Always set your alarm when you go out.
7. Be observant and report any suspicious activity.
8. Keep emergency numbers handy or on speed dial.
9. Know your neighbours.
For all your professional alarm system installations and upgrades, CCTV cameras, biometrics, access control, guarding and other security services and advice, KSS are able to assist you.
Preventing Car Break-Ins
• Remove all valuables from your car. Don’t leave valuables visible.
• Close the windows and lock your doors every time you get out.
• Park in well-lit areas and don’t park near shrubs or fences that could provide concealment for criminals.
• Keep your driveway and yard lit up all night. It’s harder for criminals to hide in the light.
• Don’t keep spare keys inside the car.
• Lock your shopping packages or bags in the boot.
• Use heavy duty locks for truck tool boxes and secure the tool box to the bed of the truck.
