KSS Incident Report 11 - 25 May 2022

Dear KSS Clients

Please note that copper pipes and vehicles are being targeted at the moment.

Keep all outside buildings and storerooms locked and preferably alarmed. There are a lot of opportunistic (quick in and out) crimes at the moment.

Incident summary (crime and other)
There were 7 incidents in Howick. There were 4 incidents in Merrivale. There were 3 incidents in Howick West. There was 1 incident in Karkloof.

KSS Incidents 11 – 25 May 2022
11 May 2022 17:32 R617 Boston Bulwer Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room received a fence activation. The on-site Security Guard was advised and went to check. The Security Guard advised that contractors had cut a tree down and a branch had fallen onto the fence. The matter was handed over to site management to resolve the matter and discuss damages.

12 May 2022 07:29 Karkloof Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room were advised about a break-in. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that suspects had gained access by getting under the fence. An unlocked garage was opened, and food items were stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

13 May 2022 03:36 Aster Road (Howick West) The KSS Control Room were advised about suspects on site. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the suspects had fled. Copper pipes were stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

13 May 2022 09:27 Karkloof Road (Karkloof) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client advising that items had been stolen from an unlocked storeroom. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the KSS K9 unit was on-site. Numerous large items were stolen. There were no signs of forced entry. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

14 May 2022 14:53 Divine Road (Howick West) The KSS Control Room were advised that copper pipes had been stolen. As per the client no need for Armed Response or SAPS. KSS were requested to conduct additional patrols in the area.

16 May 2022 07:45 Main Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a panic activation. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported a positive break-in. Access was gained by jumping the fence and then breaking a window and bending the burglar bars. Nothing was stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

16 May 2022 14:08 Rylands Road (Howick) The KSS received a call from the client requesting assistance. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a laptop had been stolen. Access was gained through an open gate and an open window. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

16 May 2022 18:03 Geekie Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room received an alarm activation. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the fence had been cut. Nothing was stolen. As per the client no need for SAPS. KSS conducted additional patrols in the area.

18 May 2022 14:20 Main Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room were advised by an on-site KSS Security Guard that shop-lifters who had stolen items the day before, were back on-site. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that 3 suspects had been apprehended and numerous stolen items recovered. SAPS were formally advised. The suspects were handed over to SAPS. A case was opened.

18 May 2022 23:55 Prospect Road (Howick West) The KSS Control Room were advised that a truck had driven into wooden fencing poles. A statement was made by the truck driver and an alcohol test proved to be negative. KSS handed the incident over to site management.

21 May 2022 08:42 Main Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room were advised about a positive break-in. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a window had been broken and the burglar bars removed. An electronic item was stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

22 May 2022 02:00 Hayfields Road (Howick) A patrolling KSS Response Team noticed two suspects walking down the street carrying copper pipes. The suspects dropped the pipes and fled. KSS Officers recovered the pipes and patrolled the area. After lengthy patrols one of the suspects was located and apprehended. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

23 May 2022 23:24 Wilson Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room were alerted to the fact that the UCSI SNIPR camera had been tampered with. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. On further investigation KSS Officers noted that there had been a break-in to the adjacent property. A glass door had been broken and the fence and beams had been tampered with. Cash was stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

23 May 2022 15:50 Main Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client advising about an attempted break-in. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a window had been forced open and the burglar bar bent. Nothing was stolen. As per the client no need for SAPS.

25 May 2022 07:33 Mansfield Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a panic activation. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that there had been an attempted theft of a bakkie. Nothing was stolen. SAPS were formally advised. An incident report was filed.
