KSS Incident Report 26 May - 8 June 2022

Dear KSS Clients

Please note that following are areas of concern with the recent crimes:
1. Water pipes being targeted.
2. Numerous quick in and out opportunistic crimes. PLEASE set your alarms.
3. Shoplifting.
4. Gate motors being tampered with, and gate batteries being stolen.

Incident summary (crime and other)
There were 18 incidents in Howick. There were 3 incidents in Howick West. There were 3 incidents in Pietermaritzburg. There were 2 incidents in Karkloof. There were 2 incidents in Merrivale. There was 1 incident in Merrivale Heights. There was 1 incident in Boston.

KSS Incidents 25 May – 8 June 2022
25 May 2022 23:12 Bisley (Pietermaritzburg) The KSS Control Room received a CCTV camera activation. Magma was dispatched to attend to the activation. Magma advised that the suspects fled when they noticed the Magma vehicle approaching. Nothing was stolen but property was damaged. Additional patrols were conducted in the area. SAPS were formally advised.

26 May 2022 05:46 Main Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room was advised that a shop window had been broken. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that they met the client on site. Items were stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

26 May 2022 11:01 Main Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room were advised that an electric fence had been tampered with. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the top 5 strands of the fence had been damaged. No access was gained. Nothing was stolen. As per the client no need for SAPS.

27 May 2022 07:50 Harvard Street (Howick) A patrolling KSS Officer was advised that a gate motor had been tampered with. On further investigation it was established that the gate battery had been stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

27 May 2022 11:35 Riverview Road (Howick West) A patrolling KSS Officer noticed a gentleman in distress running down the road. On further investigation the KSS Officer was able to establish that the man’s shop had been robbed at gunpoint and he was chasing the suspect. KSS Officers assisted in searching for the suspect but to no avail. Money was stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

28 May 2022 08:07 Main Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a panic activation. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that there had been a break-in. Access was gained through the roof and the exit was through the window and by cutting the burglar bars. Items were stolen. SAPS were formally advised.

28 May 2022 08:56 Main Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room were advised that some on-site CCTV cameras had been tampered with. As per the client no need for SAPS. KSS conducted additional patrols in the area.

28 May 2022 23:32 Harvard Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room were advised by the monitoring security company that they needed assistance. The on-site Security Guard from another company could not be located. KSS Response Teams were dispatched to assist. The KSS Officers reported that access was gained through a hole in the wall. Items were stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

29 May 2022 02:36 Karkloof Road (Karkloof) The KSS Control Room were advised about a positive break-in. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a window had been forced open. Various items were stolen. The KSS K9 Unit was dispatched, and the sniffer dog was able to lead them to an area where the suspects could possibly be traced. As per the client no need for SAPS.

29 May 2022 11:50 Karkloof Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room were advised about a break in. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a sliding door had been forced open. The suspects fled when they were disturbed by the client. Nothing was stolen. SAPS were formally advised.

29 May 2022 15:00 R617 (Boston) The KSS Control Room were advised about cattle that had been stolen. A KSS Response Team was dispatched to investigate. There were no signs of forced entry. SAPS were formally advised.

29 May 2022 15:57 Rylands Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client requesting assistance. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a sliding burglar gate had been derailed and a door was left open. Nothing was stolen. As per the client no need for SAPS. KSS conducted additional patrols in the area.

29 May 2022 16:00 Karkloof Road (Karkloof) The KSS Control Room were advised by an on-site Response Team that there had been a break in. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

30 May 2022 07:02 Paddock Crescent (Howick) The KSS Control Room were advised that a gate motor had been stolen. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the client would go to SAPS to report the incident.

30 May 2022 09:09 Hyslop Road (Howick) A patrolling KSS Response Officer was advised by a client that a suspect had tried to steal water pipes. The KSS Officer reported that access was gained by jumping over the fence. The pipes were recovered. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

30 May 2022 15:25 Braemar Crescent (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a panic activation. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that there were suspects on site. The suspects fled when the alarm activated. No access was gained. Nothing was stolen.

30 May 2022 19:45 Fraser Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room were advised about a break-in. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a window had been broken. Items of clothing and cell phone were stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

31 May 2022 10:29 District Road (Merrivale Heights) The KSS Control Room were advised that water pipes and cables leading to water pump had been stolen and damaged. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that cable was exposed, and they needed technical assistance to repair the damage. As per the client no need for SAPS. KSS conducted additional patrols in the area.

31 May 2022 17:55 Harvard Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room were advised by shop management that there had been a break-in to their retail premises. They are not monitored by KSS and nor is the Security Guard on site from KSS. The shop manager requested assistance from KSS. A KSS Security Guard was placed on site for additional security. SAPS were formally advised.

1 June 2022 20:20 Main Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room were advised that a suspect had been seen on CCTV camera stealing an item from the shop. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the suspect had concealed an item under his jacket and then fled the scene. As per the client no need for SAPS.

3 June 2022 11:23 Harvard Street (Howick) A patrolling KSS Response Officer noticed a Security Guard from another company chasing a suspect. The KSS Officer assisted, and the suspect was apprehended for stealing items from a shop. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

4 June 2022 20:47 Bisley (Pietermaritzburg) The KSS Control Room received a CCTV camera activation. Magma was dispatched. The Magma Officers reported that a container had been forced open. Electronic items and a solar panel were stolen. SAPS were formally advised.

4 June 2022 08:09 Oakleigh Drive (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from the client advising that the gate motor had been tampered with and the gate battery stolen. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that nothing else had been stolen. SAPS were formally advised.

4 June 2022 17:43 Central Road (Howick West) The KSS Control Room received an alarm activation. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a window had been broken. Nothing was stolen. The client was advised and KSS Officers met the client on-site.

4 June 2022 19:00 Waterfall Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room were advised that suspects were trying to break into the property of a non-KSS client. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the suspects tried to force open a verandah gate. Nothing was stolen. KSS conducted additional patrols in the area.

6 June 2022 09:19 Saligna Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client requesting assistance. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that external beams and large bins had been stolen. Access was gained through the fence. KSS Officers recovered one of the bins and reported this to the client. As per the client no need for SAPS. They will handle the matter and upscale to SAPS if necessary.

6 June 2022 19:22 Midmar Road (Howick West) The KSS Control Room received a panic activation. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that there was suspect on the neighbouring property. The suspect jumped out of a window and fled. The residents were in the house at the time. Nothing was stolen. SAPS were formally advised.

7 June 2022 22:46 Bisley (Pietermaritzburg) The KSS Control Room received a CCTV camera activation. Magma was dispatched. The Magma Officers reported that suspects had gained entry but fled the scene. Nothing was stolen. Magma conducted additional patrols in the area.

8 June 2022 07:09 Northumberland Avenue (Howick) The KSS Control Room were advised that a gate battery had been stolen. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers confirmed that access was gained by jumping over the wall. As per the client no need for SAPS.

8 June 2022 14:35 Karkloof Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room were advised about a break-in. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The client left the house open when he went out. Money and jewellery were stolen. There were no signs of forced entry. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.
