Please note gate motors being tampered with and gate batteries being stolen are a concern. Gas bottles are also a hot item, and there has been a spike in motor vehicle theft and break-ins.
Incident summary (crime and other) – this is over a 4-week period.
There were 23 incidents in Howick. There were 9 incidents in Merrivale. There were 6 incidents in Boston. There were 2 incidents in Howick West. There was 1 incident in Hilton. There was 1 incident in Elandskop. There was 1 incident in Cedara. There was 1 incident in Karkloof.
KSS Incidents 9 June – 5 July 2022
9 June 2022 02:34 Symmonds Land (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a panic activation. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers advised that the client has pressed the panic because there were suspects on the neighbouring, unmonitored property. The suspect fled the scene with a blanket. As per the client no need for SAPS.
9 June 2022 20:06 R617 (Boston) The KSS Control Room were advised that the KSS Response Team in the area had apprehended a suspect for stealing. KSS reported to the local SAPS with the suspect. As per the owner there was no need for SAPS to get involved. The suspect was released with a warning.
9 June 2022 21:00 Divine Road (Howick West) The KSS Control Room were advised that Eskom cables were lying across the road. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers sent images of the damages to the Control Room. Eskom and SAPS were formally advised.
10 June 2022 00:18 Karkloof Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room were advised that a suspect was attempting to break-in. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the suspect had fled as he was disturbed by the client. No access was gained to the house. Nothing was stolen. As per the client no need for SAPS.
10 June 2022 03:56 Karkloof Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a CCTV camera activation of suspects on site. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The suspects were spotted but discarded their stolen goods and fled. KSS Officers recovered the stolen items. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.
10 June 2022 09:00 Karkloof Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room were advise that a garage door had been tampered with. A KSS Response Team was dispatched to investigate further. The KSS Officer reported that the garage door had been damaged.
10 June 2022 10:00 Karkloof Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room were advised of a break-in. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that access was gained to the garage through an unlocked garage door. The vehicle was tampered with. Nothing was stolen.
10 June 2022 21:01 D546 (Cedara) The KSS Control Room received an alarm activation. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a door had been forced open. Nothing was stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened. KSS placed a Security Guard on site for the night.
11 June 2022 14:28 Main Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room were advised that a vehicle had been stolen. A KSS Response Team and SAPS were dispatched. The UCSI was advised and SNIPR camera checked. It was established that the vehicle went through Hilton and then down into Sweetwaters. A case was opened, and the vehicle and CAS number were loaded on the UCSI SNIPR system.
12 June 2022 18:44 Mopani Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room received an alarm activation. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the doors to the factory were open. Access was gained by cutting the fence. KSS Officers recovered numerous stolen items. The client advise that they would liaise with SAPS.
12 June 2022 21:16 Rylands Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client requesting assistance. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that there had been a suspect on site who was disturbed and fled. Nothing was stolen. As per the client no need for SAPS. KSS conducted additional patrols in the area.
13 June 2022 02:38 Main Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room received an alarm activation. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the suspects fled the scene. The door and burglar gate had been forced open, but the alarm disturbed them. Nothing was stolen. AS per the client they would liaise with SAPS in the morning to report the incident.
14 June 2022 07:05 Memory Lane (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client advising that her gate motor had been stolen. As per the client no need for SAPS or a KSS Response Team. KSS conducted additional patrols in the area.
14 June 2022 12:25 Taylor Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room were advised that a 9kg gas bottle had been stolen. KSS Response Teams were dispatched and patrolled the area. As per the resident no need for SAPS.
14 June 2022 16:05 Main Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room were advised that suspects had stolen items from the store and fled. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that they patrolled the area but could not locate the suspects based on the descriptions provided. As per the client they would liaise directly with SAPS.
14 June 2022 19:05 Windermere Place (Howick) KSS assisted with checking premises after the clients bakkie was stolen with the house keys in it. KSS Officers reported that all was in order. KSS conducted additional patrols in the area.
15 June 2022 02:09 Mafunze (Elandskop) The KSS Control Room received an alarm activation. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that access was gained through the roof. Items were stolen and three ATM machines on site were bombed. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.
15 June 2022 03:26 Harvard Street / Main Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room were advise about a break-in to unlocked premises. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a laptop had been stolen. There were no signs of forced entry. SAPS were formally advised. An incident report was opened.
15 June 2022 05:36 Northumberland Avenue (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client advising that his gate motor had been stolen. KSS Response Teams were dispatched and patrolled the area. As per the client he would report the incident to SAPS and open a case.
15 June 2022 13:31 Zeederberg Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room received a panic activation. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a woman had been apprehended for shoplifting. The items were subsequently paid for. As per the client no need for SAPS.
16 June 2022 11:41 Park Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room received multiple activations. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a container had been broken into and the lock had been forced open. KSS Officers recovered the stolen items. As per the client no need for SAPS.
17 June 2022 07:07 Willow Road (Hilton) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client advising that his gate motor had been stolen. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that access was gained by jumping the fence. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.
17 June 2022 10:44 Harvard Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room were advised that a vehicle had been broken into. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that access was gained by jumping over the fence. Tools and a bicycle were also stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.
18 June 2022 02:25 Main Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room were advised by Blue Security that there had been multiple zone activations. Numerous KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that suspects had used crowbars to open the doors and the smashed glass doors to steal products. A vehicle was seen leaving the scene. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.
18 June 2022 16:49 Paddock Crescent (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client requesting assistance. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that there were no signed of forced entry. Electronic items were stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.
19 June 2022 02:55 Birnamwood Road (Merrivale Heights) The KSS Control Room were advised that a vehicle had flipped, and the driver needed assistance. A KSS Response Team, Midlands EMS and SAPS were dispatched. The driver did not sustain any serious injuries. The vehicle was towed, and the driver assisted.
20 June 2022 07:44 Northumberland Avenue (Howick) The KSS Control Room were advised that a gate battery had been stolen. The client reported to SAPS. A case was opened. KSS conducted additional patrols in the area.
20 June 2022 22:05 Exchange Lane (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a CCTV camera activation. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the suspects had fled. The client advised that cables had been stolen from a truck parked in the yard.
21 June 2022 20:45 Prospect Road (Howick West) The KSS Control Room received an alarm activation. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that 2 gas bottles had been stolen. The KSS Officers had recovered 2 gas bottles the previous day while on patrol and the client was able to confirm they were hers. Suspects gained access over a low wall and stolen the gas bottles out of an unlocked cage.
21 June 2022 14:29 Harvard Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client requesting assistance. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a suspect had been apprehended for stealing. As per the client no need for SAPS.
21 June 2022 14:08 Loram Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room was advised that a suspect had broken into a house and stolen a cell phone. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the suspect had been located in a house in Shiyaz settlement. The KSS Officers also recovered the stolen cell phone. The suspect was handed over to SAPS. A case was opened.
21 June 2022 17:41 Market Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room were advised that a vehicle had been broken into. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a window had been smashed with a spanner. Nothing was stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.
21 June 2022 18:44 Loram Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room received a notification for assistance. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that suspects were on site trying to steal cables. The suspects were disturbed by a staff member who lives on the site. The suspects fled. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.
22 June 2022 09:47 Dargle Road (Boston) The KSS Control Room received a report from a KSS Response Team that 6 sheep had been stolen. CCTV cameras in the area were checked. Access was gained through an unlocked farm gate. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.
29 June 2022 00:45 R617 (Boston) The KSS Control Room was advised that a patrolling KSS Response Team had apprehended 7 suspects trying to steal a transformer. The vehicle they were in was checked by TrackBox on the SNIPR system and was confirmed to be using false number plates. SAPS were formally advised. As case was opened.
1 July 2022 08:05 R617 (Boston) The KSS Control Room were advised that sheep had been stolen. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that 6 sheep had been stolen. KSS Officers recovered 4 sheep. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.
2 July 2022 02:05 Main Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room were advised about an alarm activation by the monitoring security company. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that three suspects had entered the store. One suspect was apprehended. The KSS handed the suspect over to SAPS. A case was opened.
2 July 2022 07:50 R617 (Boston) The KSS Control Room were advised that sheep had been stolen. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that 5 sheep had been stolen. KSS Officers recovered 1 sheep. SAPS were formally advised. This incident was added to the existing case opened the day before.
2 July 2022 21:40 Main Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a panic activation from an on-site Security Guard. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a vehicle had driven into the fence. The keyholder was advised and confirmed they would take over the incident.
2 July 2022 23:10 R617 (Boston) The KSS Control Room were advised by the on-site Reaction Officer that a glass sliding door of a cottage had been smashed. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.
4 July 2022 08:43 Karkloof Road (Karkloof) The KSS Control Room were advised of an attempted vehicle theft. Suspects cut the ignition cables but did not manage to steal the vehicle. Nothing was stolen from inside the vehicle. SAPS were formally advised of the incident.
4 July 2022 14:25 Zeederberg Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room were advised by a KSS Response Officer that he had been asked to assist another Security Guard on site. A suspect had been apprehended for shoplifting. A KSS Senior Inspector was dispatched to assist. The KSS Officers reported that the suspect was handed over to retail management and all the stolen items were returned.
4 July 2022 16:53 Saligna Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room received an alarm activation. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a window had been broken. Nothing was stolen. As per the client no need for SAPS.
5 July 2022 09:24 Sutton Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room were advised about a break-in. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that access was gained by cutting a hole in the fence and then cutting through the chain. Various items were stolen off the unprotected outside verandah. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.
5 July 2022 10:14 Dalton Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room were advised by the client that their gate battery had been stolen. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the motor was not secured with a bracket and hence the battery was easy to steal. SAPS were formally advised.
