Please note the increased incidents of copper pipes, air conditioning unit pipes and electrical cables being stolen.

Incident Summary (crime and other)
There were 12 incidents in Howick. There were 3 incidents in Boston. There were 2 incidents in Merrivale Heights. There were 2 incidents in Hilton. There were 2 incidents in Howick West. There was 1 incident in Tumbleweed. There was 1 incident in Pietermaritzburg. There was 1 incident in Birnamwood.

KSS Incidents 20 April – 8 May 2023
20 April 2023 15:51 Uplands Road (Pietermaritzburg) The KSS Control Room received a call from the client advising about a break-in. As per the client no need for a Response Team. The client advised that a suspect entered the premises by forcing open the garage door and breaking the back gate. The client was at home at the time. The suspect fled. Items were stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened. Amlec Security conducted additional patrols.

21 April 2023 01:30 Main Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from the client requesting a patrol. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that window was open. Nothing was stolen. KSS Officers patrolled again at 04:40 and found another window open and saw a suspect fleeing from the property. As per the client the KSS Officers closed the windows. The client advised that he would let the Control Room know later in the day if SAPS was required.

22 April 2023 20:00 Karkloof Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client requesting assistance. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that there had been a break-in through an open window or unsecured sliding door. Items were stolen. SAPS were formally advised.

23 April 2023 00:18 Overdene Road (Howick West) The KSS Control Room received a call requesting assistance. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that they had apprehended a heavily intoxicated male. Nothing was damaged. SAPS were formally advised and KSS Officers handed the suspect over to SAPS.

23 April 2023 00:30 R617 (Boston) The KSS Control Room was advised by the KSS Officer that he has assisted SAPS with an investigation and recovery of stolen items.

23 April 2023 07:15 Holgate Road (Merrivale Heights) The KSS Control Room was advised that an item had been stolen off a verandah. The alarm was not working due to renovations. As per the resident she did not require a Response Team or SAPS.

26 April 2023 02:28 Cherry Lane (Hilton) The KSS Control Room received a fence activation. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that suspects were seen fleeing from the premises. Items were stolen but some were recovered. SAPS were formally advised.

26 April 2023 09:00 Flamingo Drive (Hilton) The KSS Control Room was advised about a break-in. As per the resident, suspects broke through a door and stole some items from an unalarmed flat. As per the resident no need for Armed Response or SAPS.

26 April 2023 16:00 Prospect Road (Howick West) The KSS Control Room was advised by a KSS Security Officer that he had apprehended an employee on the site stealing items. The site Manager was advised and took over the matter.

27 April 2023 17:55 Bell Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a panic activation. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that they had apprehended a suspect. As per the client no need for SAPS.

29 April 2023 22:00 Birnamwood Road (Birnamwood) The KSS Control Room was advised about armed suspects on site who wanted to steal goats. As per the resident no need for SAPS.

30 April 2023 16:44 Main Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client requesting assistance as there was a suspect on site. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that access was gained by crawling under the fence. Cable was stolen. The client was advised accordingly.

30 April 2023 18:44 Harvard Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room was advised that copper pipes had been stolen and that water was spraying out. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers confirmed that copper pipes and a tap had been stolen. As per the client no need for SAPS.

1 May 2023 18:15 Main Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a CCTV camera activation indicating a suspect on site. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the copper pipes leading to the air conditioning unit had been damaged. The client was advised accordingly.

2 May 2023 07:32 Mapholoba Street (Tumbleweed) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client requesting assistance. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that suspects had broken the kitchen door and items had been stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

2 May 2023 09:29 Main Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client advising that copper pipes had been stolen. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

2 May 2023 09:35 Main Street (Howick) The KSS Operations Manager was advised that cable had been stolen. SAPS were formally advised.

4 May 2023 16:00 R617 (Boston) The KSS Control Room was advised that a quad bike had been stolen. A KSS Response Team was dispatched to investigate. The KSS Officers reported that access was gained by breaking the lock on the main gate and then forcing the front door open. SAPS were formally advised.

4 May 2023 19:01 Sunningdale Drive (Howick) The KSS Control Room was advised that there were suspects stealing cables. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the residents heard a bang and then the power went off. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

5 May 2023 08:21 Main Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room was advised that parts of an air-conditioning unit had been stolen. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that access was gained over the fence and there were no external beams covering the area. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

5 May 2023 07:47 R617 (Boston) The KSS Control Room received a panic activation. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that they had apprehended a suspect who tried to rob an elderly lady. SAPS were formally advised, and the suspect was handed over to SAPS by the KSS Officers. A case was opened.

7 May 2023 12:48 Main Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a panic activation. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that pipes had been stolen. There were no outside beams in the area. Saps were formally advised. A case was opened.

8 May 2023 03:29 Power Lane (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a CCTV camera activation. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that all was in order. Nothing was stolen. The client was advised.

8 May 2023 Wilson Road (Merrivale Heights) The KSS Control Room received a call from a member of public advising that there was an injured male sitting next to the road. The KSS Officers confirmed that the man had been assaulted and Midlands EMS were dispatched. The man was taken to Northdale Hospital for further treatment.
