Safety and Security Tips
Here are some easy ways to secure your home and business:
• Install an alarm system – and enquire about beams, upgrades, and new technology
• Install CCTV cameras
• Find about the use of cell phone technology and security
• Secure all doors with gates
• Secure all windows with burglar guards
• Light up your property and clear away excessive foliage
• Don't forget to secure the garage, sheds, wendy houses and outbuildings.
• Install a safe and bolt it to two walls
• Make sure your back-up battery supply is sufficient to last for at least 4-hours of loadshedding
• Always set your alarm – even if it is for a quick trip to the shops
• Don’t leave items lying around outside in view of the road
• Even when you are at home – be vigilant and aware

KSS Incidents 30 June – 20 July 2023
30 June 2023 13:31 Park Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from the client requesting assistance. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that there had been a suspect on site. Access was gained by jumping the fence. The suspect was disturbed by the client and fled. Nothing was stolen. As per the client no need for SAPS.

1 July 2023 08:22 Karkloof Road (Karkloof) The KSS Control Room received a call from the client requesting assistance. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that there had been a fight on the premises. The matter was resolved, and no one was injured.

2 July 2023 07:47 Exchange Lane (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a CCTV camera activation. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers apprehended 1 suspect in possession of stolen items. The client was unable to come to site and then go to SAPS to open a case, so the suspect had to be released.

2 July 2023 15:36 Main Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from the client requesting assistance. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a brick had been thrown through a window. No access was gained. Nothing was stolen. As per the client no need for SAPS.

3 July 2023 08:03 Campbell Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from the client requesting assistance. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that an air-conditioning unit had been stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

3 July 2023 20:32 Main Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room received an alarm activation. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that copper pipes had been stolen and the air conditioning unit had been damaged. Access was gained by jumping the fence. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

5 July 2023 16:45 Mansfield Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room received an alarm activation. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a window was broken and had been left open. A laptop was stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

6 July 2023 20:51 Oakleigh Drive (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a panic activation. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported domestic violence. Midlands EMS and SAPS were dispatched. The matter was handed over by KSS Officers to Medical Officers and SAPS.

6 July 2023 22:07 Rylands Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client requesting assistance. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that there had been an intruder on the property but had fled when he realized he had been seen. A table was recovered by KSS Officers. Nothing else was stolen.

7 July 2023 01:42 Old Main Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from Ballid Security requesting assistance as they had seen footage of men stealing safety cones. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the client was unaware that the safety cones had been stolen.

8 July 2023 09:31 Campbell Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room received an out-of-hours opening. KSS Response Teams were dispatched to investigate. The KSS Officers reported that copper pipes had been stolen. Access was gained by jumping the fence. The client was advised.

8 July 2023 09:45 Harvard Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from a KSS Senior Reaction Officer requesting assistance on-site. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a suspect had been apprehended in possession of stolen items. SAPS were dispatched and KSS handed the suspect over to SAPS. A case was opened.

9 July 2023 02:17 Main Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room received an alarm activation. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that there were bent pipes and water was leaking. The client was advised, and he stated he would come out and fix the issue.

9 July 2023 03:30 Exchange Lane (Howick) The KSS Control Room received an alarm activation. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the gate had been knocked by a vehicle. KSS conducted additional patrols in the area.

9 July 2023 08:10 Main Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from Ballid Security to check on a site as their client had called in requesting assistance. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that access was gained by jumping over the palisade fence. A window was broken, and an item was stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

9 July 2023 18:46 Exchange Lane (Howick) The KSS Control Room was advised by a KSS Security Guard that a vehicle had knocked into the fence on site and the driven off. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers patrolled the area, and the client was advised accordingly.

10 July 2023 22:18 Main Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a main failure activation from the premises. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that there was a broken window. KSS placed a Security Guard on site as the client was unable to be contacted. SAPS were formally advised.

11 July 2023 17:19 Gush Avenue (Howick) The KSS Control Room received an alarm activation. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a brick had been thrown through a window. Access was gained by jumping over the palisade fence. The client was advised. KSS placed a Security Guard on site. SAPS were formally advised.

12 July 2023 03:00 Main Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room were advised by a KSS Reaction Officer that while on patrol he noticed water gushing from a property. The KSS Officer investigated further and advised that copper pipes had been stolen. KSS Officers managed to locate the main water supply and close off the tap. The client was advised and appreciated the assistance. SAPS were formally advised.

12 July 2023 06:50 Birnamwood Road (Birnamwood) The KSS Control Room received a call from the client requesting assistance. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that there had been a break-in to a workshop that had no door or gate, and the alarm wasn’t armed. Numerous items were stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

12 July 2023 08:37 Somme Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from the client requesting assistance. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that cable had been stolen. Access was gained by jumping over the gate. SAPS was formally advised.

12 July 2023 20:40 Wilson Road (Merrivale Heights) The KSS Control Room received a CCTV camera activation. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that nothing was stolen or damaged. As per the client no need for SAPS.

13 July 2023 07:24 Main Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from the client requesting assistance. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that cable had been stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

14 July 2023 09:46 Rosebank Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room received an alarm activation. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that there had been a suspect on site. Access was gained by crawling under the fence. The suspect fled. Nothing was stolen. KSS conducted additional patrols in the area.

14 July 2023 09:51 Anderson Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room were advised about intruders on site. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the suspect tried to open the door but fled when he realized he had been seen. Nothing was stolen. KSS conducted additional patrols in the area.

14 July 2023 15:32 Bisley (Pietermaritzburg) The KSS Control Room received a CCTV camera activation and advised Magma Response Teams that there was a suspect on site holding a crowbar. It was confirmed that 1 solar panel had been stolen and 3 damaged. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

17 July 2023 02:54 Bell Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room received an alarm activation. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a suspect had been apprehended in possession of stolen items. Access was gained by breaking the burglar guards and removing the windowpane. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

18 July 2023 21:13 Hillbrow Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a panic activation. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a window had been broken. Access was gained by jumping the wall. Nothing was stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A KSS Security Guard was placed on site.

19 July 2023 01:00 R617 (Boston) The KSS Control Room received a call from the client requesting assistance as the fence alarm had activated. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that there had been a suspect on site who was disturbed and fled. Cables were cut. Nothing was stolen. KSS conducted additional patrols in the area.

19 July 2023 09:00 Birnamwood Road (Birnamwood) The KSS Control Room were advised that a vacant house had had taps and pipes stolen from it. As per the client no need for a KSS Response Team or SAPS. KSS conducted additional patrols in the area.

19 July 2023 11:30 Cuckoo Lane (Hilton) The KSS Control Room received a call from the client requesting assistance. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that stolen items were found in an employee’s bag. As per the client they will handle the matter internally.

19 July 2023 12:00 Saligna Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client reporting that cable had been stolen. The client advised that they would handle the matter internally and if they needed assistance, they would advise KSS further.

19 July 2023 10:00 Park Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from the client requesting assistance. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that there had been a suspect on site, who fled when he realized he had been seen. Nothing was stolen. As per the client no needs for SAPS.

20 July 2023 00:20 Exchange Lane (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from a KSS Senior Response Officer reporting that a vehicle had driven into the fence. Vehicle details were obtained from the on-site KSS Security Guard. The incident was reported to the client. KSS Conducted patrols for the remainder of the night.
