Current crime trends
Please be advised that attempted vehicle theft and theft of items from vehicles is on the rise. Please ensure that your vehicle is parked in a safe area and protected by external beams or an alarmed garage.

The “hot” items currently are solar panels, electrical tools, garden equipment, gas bottles, copper pipes and electronic items.

Make sure that you alarm outbuildings, sheds, wendy houses, containers and garages.

Loadshedding
Please ensure that you have enough back-up battery supplies for alarms, fences, gates and CCTV cameras that will last the duration of the loadshedding.

KSS is able to assist with alarm protection of your solar panels.

KSS Incidents 31 July – 16 August 2023
31 July 2023 19:17 York Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room was advised about a suspect jumping over the wall of the property as the dog had disturbed him. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the suspect had fled. Nothing was stolen. KSS and other security companies patrolled the area.

1 August 2023 09:22 Oakleigh Drive (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from the client requesting assistance. A KSS Response unit was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that there were suspects on site and additional KSS units were dispatched. The suspects fled. Copper pipes were stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

1 August 2023 16:22 Albany Grove (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from the client requesting assistance. A KSS Response unit was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that access was gained by jumping the fence and breaking into the wendy house as well as into the main house by removing a windowpane. Numerous items were stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

3 August 2023 07:30 Symmonds Lane (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from the client requesting assistance as he had picked up a CCTV camera activation. A KSS Response unit was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that they noted the suspect running away and gave chase. The KSS Officers apprehended the suspect who had a knife and screwdriver in his possession. The suspect had stolen garden and electrical tools from the site. The suspect was handed over to SAPS. A case was opened.

3 August 2023 10:28 Riverview Road (Howick West) The KSS Control Room received a panic activation. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that food items had been stolen from site. As per the client no need for SAPS.

4 August 2023 09:30 Karkloof Road (Karkloof) The KSS Control Room received a call from the client requesting assistance. A KSS Response unit was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that copper pipes had been stolen from a construction site. As per the client they will advise SAPS.

5 August 2023 04:56 Main Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from the client requesting assistance. A KSS Response unit was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a vehicle had been broken into. Items were stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

6 August 2023 15:35 Ogilvie Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room received a call from the client requesting assistance. A KSS Response unit was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a gas bottle had been stolen from a cage. The client also advised that her neighbours’ geyser had been stolen the night before (non-KSS client). As per the client no need for SAPS. KSS conducted additional patrols in the area.

6 August 2023 19:13 Umgeni Avenue (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from the client requesting assistance. A KSS Response unit was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that access was gained through an unlocked door. Items were stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened. KSS conducted additional patrols in the area.

7 August 2023 08:17 Wiese Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room was advised about a break-in. Power tools were stolen. As per the client no need for Armed Response. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

7 August 2023 15:55 Karkloof Road (Karkloof) The KSS Control Room was advised the solar panels had been stolen. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the client was unsure when the panels had been stolen as he had not been on-site. There was no alarm system installed.

8 August 2023 19:07 Oakleigh Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room received an alarm activation. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the client had advised that that there had been a suspect on site. Access was gained by cutting a hole in the fence. Items left outside were stolen. No access was gained into the house.

9 August 2023 03:17 Wanstead Place (Merrivale Heights) The KSS Control Room was advised that the resident needed assistance. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a suspect had broken a vehicle window but fled when the client went outside to see why the dogs were barking. As per the resident no need for SAPS.

10 August 2023 01:12 Wapenaar Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room were advised that a resident needed assistance was there was a suspect on the property, and they did not have an alarm. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the suspect had broken into a bedroom. Items were stolen. KSS Officers and other security service providers patrolled the river. A bicycle was recovered.

12 August 2023 04:38 Karkloof Road (Karkloof) The KSS Control Room received an alarm activation. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that there had been a break-in to a neighbouring house on the property. KSS back-up units and SAPS were dispatched. Access was gained by cutting a hole in the fence and then climbing through the kitchen window. The residents of the house were confronted by the suspects and held up at knife point. Numerous items were stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened. KSS assisted the resident.

12 August 2023 09:45 Plant Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client requesting assistance. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that the wendy house had been broken into. Access was gained by jumping the fence and then cutting the lock on the door. The alarm was not armed. Two bicycles were stolen, but one was recovered by KSS Officers. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

14 August 2023 23:19 Ridge Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client requesting assistance. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a gas bottle had been stolen. Access was gained by jumping the fence. As per the client no need for SAPS. KSS conducted additional patrols in the area.
14 August 2023 04:21 Devonshire Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client requesting assistance. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that there was a suspect on site. Access was gained by jumping the fence. Garden tools were stolen. As per the client no need for SAPS.

14 August 2023 08:16 Falls Drive (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client requesting assistance. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that there had been a break-in and numerous items stolen including solar panels. The alarm was not armed. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

15 August 2023 08:08 D292 (Merrivale Rural) The KSS Control Room received a call from an on-site KSS Security Guard to advise that there had been a break-in. KSS Response Teams and an Inspector were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a container had been broken into. Numerous items were stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

15 August 2023 08:43 Carel Orthman Road (Merrivale Heights) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client requesting assistance. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that a vehicle had been broken into. Access was gained by jumping the wall. The driver’s window was broken. Items were stolen. The bonnet was also left open, but the battery was not stolen. The vehicle was parked in the yard. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

15 August 2023 15:52 Ogilvie Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client requesting assistance. A KSS Response Team was dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that suspects had broken the lock on the gate and tried to remove putty from a window and open the garage door. Access was gained by jumping the wall. Nothing was stolen. As per the client no need for SAPS.

16 August 2023 08:07 Flanders Crescent (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client advising that his vehicle had been broken into. The rear window was broken. Items were stolen. SAPS were formally advised. A case was opened.

16 August 2023 11:30 Railway Line (Howick area) The KSS Control Room was advised about suspects stealing copper cables. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. The KSS Officers reported that two suspects were apprehended. SAPS were formally advised, and the suspects were handed over to SAPS. A case was opened.
